HUPAC Notes

To our members:For many years I was an agent and I did not believe in PAC money, but then I became involved and quickly realized that if we, as agents do not tell our story, another story is being shared that all too often is not beneficial to our future. (If you don’t believe that, make a trip to D.C. sometime and just listen to the conversations around you) Right about then is when I fully realized that silence is not always golden, and it was time for us to be heard.  Whether I liked it or not, money is what it takes to be heard in D.C. and until and unless that changes, just being someone who doesn’t like the process, wasn’t going to serve any of us well. That is why I contribute at the Capitol Club level of HUPAC and why I am asking you to consider either a one time donation or even a $10 per month PAC contribution today.  To donate please go to www.hupac.org now and make a commitment to your organization.  From our Executive Director, Janet Trautwein:Your membership in NAHU and your support of our Political Action Committee, HUPAC, has given us the opportunity to tell our story and explain the value agents and brokers bring to their clients. This is a very challenging time for the health insurance industry. The new congress faces many important issues that are unprecedented in recent memory. It will require bipartisanship and creative thinking to get anything accomplished. However, we still have an opportunity to influence the direction of public debate on health care policy. Our input will be sought to help in refining the reforms proposed by President Obama and Congress. Getting to the table early increases our opportunity to influence future debate. Thanks in a large part to your support, NAHU has had the opportunity to interact with policymakers on advancing many of our advocacy goals. The economy continues to worsen, but now more than ever, it will take money to support those elected officials who believe that agents and brokers are part of the solution in shaping the new health care agenda. As leaders of this great federation, we need to set priorities and you have indicated that HUPAC is one of yours. It is dedicated members like you that allow NAHU's staff the opportunity to communicate our message to Congress, Thank You. This is going to be a tough year ahead, the stakes are high and there is no guarantee of success. Our message must be clear, the outcome is critical, your contributions can make a difference. Now more than ever we need the support of committed members like yourself. Remember www.hupac.org to donate and on  behalf of the board of directors for your local chapter, Greater Northern Indiana AHU, we thank you! Patricia Griffey  HUPAC Chair
